Kurseong Municipality is committed to ensure the fullest development of the personality of the individual of Kurseong Municipal Area. To that extent Kurseong Municipality has executed a Citizen friendly “The Citizen Charter” to achieve the dual objective of providing speedy quality public services and informing the citizens of their rights and responsibilities.

This Citizen Charter is based on the principle of “SMART’’ administration, which is “Simple, Moral, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent”

The Charter is a promise to deliver public services to the citizens of Kurseong Municipality. This charter may not be treated as a legal document against the Municipality.

E. Department wise information of Kurseong Municipality

Tax Department

The  Tax-Daroga heads this department. This department generates revenue through property tax collection, collection of rent from municipal properties, tax on advertisement fees, issue & renewal of trade licence, mutation.

The Sub-Assistant Engineer Building’s & Street light is the head of the department which sanctions building plan and maintenance and installation of street lights in the town.

Sanitation Department and Health Wings.

Kurseong Municipality is committed to give its citizen clean and green city which involves different areas like sanitation and health. Very recently formed health wing of kurseong municipality is also under the supervision of sanitation department. The Sanitary Inspector is the in- charge of this department which looks after the sewer line connection, health sub-centres and Public health.

 

Functions & Activity:

How citizen can help?

  1. Ensure that your premises are cleaned before street cleaning and throw garbage in the bins before the pick up time
  2. Keep the surrounding of your building clean
  3. Segregate your garbage into bio-degradable and non bio-degradable
  4. Report non sweeping and not lifting of garbage’s
  5. Use urinal and toilets provided for public use
  6. Place a complaint if they are not cleaned or if repairs are needed.

Water Supply , Roads & Drainage

The department is the most important one as it is the sole in charge of water supply in the town. The department is headed by Sr. Sub- Assistant Engineer which looks after the distribution of water supply in the municipal town. The department also looks after drainage and road network of Kurseong Municipal Area.

 

Function:

  1. To supply safe drinking water
  2. To sort out problems with Public Works Dept.
  3. Maintenance of roads and drainage
  4. Special arrangement to supply water in dry season

 

How Citizen can extend support?

  1. Do not construct or dump materials which obstructs or block a road.
  2. Do not vandalise road infrastructure
  3. Apply for permission for carrying out public events in roads.
  4. Do not throw garbage into the drain and roads
  5. Ensuring rain water harvesting in your area.
  6. Promptly report blocks/chokes.
  7. Report leakages of water supply lines.
  8. Keep away from illegal tapping
  9. Save water
  10. Don’t misuse water
